British Colonial?

Yea! I am going to join Metamorphosis Monday with a small project. Metamorphosis Monday comes your way from Susan at Between Naps on the Porch. Our master bedroom has a bit of a British Colonial flavor and I really wanted to do something with the top of my dresser. Here is the undecorated dressor top.
I just hadn't taken the time to go hunting and gathering to put together a display. Now that we are selling the house, I figured staging counts. And it can all be transferred to our new space. Pretty bland and boring, huh?

I found this botanical print at a local store with a great clearance price as the frame had been all scuffed up. I got it for less than 1/4 of the original price. A little walnut stain and it had character instead of flaws. Then I went searching around the house for other things I could pull together. I did buy the elephant on clearance also. I suspect my husband may not appreciate him, but I have decided he is going to become my lucky elephant.

Better than before. What else do I need to add to make it a bit more interesting? I did add a little doily under the perfume bottles after I took the picture which adds some interest. I will keep tweaking. Any and all suggestions are welcome!

Creative Moment

I have been having so much fun making fabric flowers and trying to think of what I could do with them. I think they look really good made of unbleached and soft colored cotton prints. And it lets me use some of my bottons.

I decided that I wanted a simple handbag decorated with one of my fabric flowers. I added a little burlap and several kinds of ribbon to make it a bit more fun. I can't wait to use it now!!

Garage sale finds

It was Saturday, I had free time, and there were lots of adds for interesting garage sales so I had to go searching. Nevermind it means more stuff to move when our house sells.... I love this screen I found. It has old white/cream paint with some green showing through in worn spots. I so wish I had bought the other two screens that were standing with this one!! I just know I will find the perfect way to use it.
As for this turkey, he just caught my eye. He still had a price tag that said $32 so that just confirmed I was getting a great buy! ;) He will look great at Thanksgiving in some sort of tablescape. Right color, right price, and caught my eye.

I love these plants in this old sewing machine drawer. I bought the miniature garden tools a couple of years ago and finally found a way to use them.

Most of my deck and patio plants are in old enamel ware and tin containers. This may be my last summer to decorate this space if we find a seller for our home so I figured I better take some pictures for myself. I am quite excited to move but will definitely miss this backyard!

I am picking up after myself and I am liking it. I have a tendency to follow in my Mom's footsteps (sorry Mom) and leave what what my husband calls "Brenda Droppings" where ever I have been. A magazine, 1/2 a can of Dt. Mt. Dew I will finish tomorrow or the next day, a pile of clothes that maybe can be worn once more to the barn before washing,... But with our house on the market, it is much easier just to pick up after myself as I go rather than have to make a mad dash when some realtor calls. Now, the last couple of days have not been real busy so the test will come when I am back to feeling rushed. But I suspect, I am going to find that picking up after myself as I go doesn't really take much time. And maybe if I do keep picking up after myself, Jonathan will realize that he leaves his own messes behind him. :) Now if only I could teach the dogs(2) and cats (4) to pick up after themselves!

We have a purchase agreement in place and are awaiting the sale of our current home, then the pleasure of turning a house into home begins. Our current home has been polished and decluttered to show it to its best advantage for the next owners. My intent is to share the 'fun' of changing homes and the evolution of my perfect home.
